Neh 9:34-38 Neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept thy law, nor hearkened unto thy commandments and thy testimonies, wherewith thou didst testify against them.
35 For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works.
36 Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we are servants in it:
37 And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.
38 And because of all this we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, Levites, and priests, seal unto it.

God had greatly blessed, provided for, and protected the people as Nehemiah led that revival in Jerusalem rebuilding the walls of the city, repairing the gates and then the restoration of the temple. God had been good, so very good. Now the people were going to make a sure covenant with the Lord. (Verse 38) Surely they would keep this covenant with God and faithfully serve Him after all that had been done for them. Sadly we know that they did not keep that covenant and they walked so far from the Lord that when Jesus came they rejected Him, turned Him over to Rome and the cross. When I think of a covenant this morning I don’t think of the ones man makes with God or the ones I make but of the ones God makes with man, the ones God makes with me. God never breaks His covenants whatever they be for it is impossible for our God to lie. Covenants with Israel will be fulfilled completely. The same with the covenants God makes with us. Salvation in Jesus Christ is complete because Jesus says He will save all who call out to Him and nothing is to be added to the work completed on the cross. Jesus promised never to leave of forsake us and it is a promise He keeps each and every day. Jesus promised to hear and answer our prayers and although the answer may not always be what we want it is always what is best. When we think of covenants, agreements made between parties let us look first to the ones made by God for they will never be broken.
