Ps 16:1-3 Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.
2 O my soul, thou hast said unto the Lord, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;
3 But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.
KJV
We are looking at steps in this Psalm, steps that take us up, always up. The first being salvation in verses one and eleven. Now we see a second step in the life of David in verses two and three, a step of complete dedication unto his Lord and Savior. “O my soul, thou hast said unto the Lord, Thou art my Lord”. Note the two spellings of the word Lord in verse two. The first, all capital letters, point to Jehovah God and the relationship David had with the Lord because of salvation. David was born again as we would say today. Then the spelling with one capital letter and the rest small case letters. That points to making the Lord the master of his life, David dedicated himself to his savior, to the Lord. How much of us does God want, does Jesus Christ want? Jesus gave all for us, gave His life for us, shed His blood for us. How much of us does Jesus want? More than just our eternal soul, Jesus wants all of us to be given to Him all of the time. If you have made Jesus Christ your savior from sin and hell there is another step to take. Make Jesus the master of your life. There are so many who look to Christ for salvation and think that is all that Christ cares about. We are to live then for Jesus Christ after we are saved. (Phil 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.) No longer are we to live for self or the world, we are to live for Christ. , Phil 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.) This seems like a huge step to take and perhaps it is but who better to follow and serve than the one who gave all for us. Have you taken the step of giving all of self to Jesus Christ. You will find Him your delight when you do. This world, our flesh, Satan himself all want to rule in our lives today. Who will we follow, who will we serve. Only one want to extend goodness to us, only Jesus.
