Matt 16:23-24 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

What things do your savor today? Peter had just been given the keys to the church. (Matt 6:18-19
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.) The church would not be and was not built upon Peter. Jesus Christ is the rock, is the sure foundation upon which the church would be built and it is Jesus Christ that builds the church. Peter would be the one to first open the door by preaching the gospel first to the Jews and then to the Gentiles. But before Peter could do that certain things had to be set in order in His life. Jesus told Peter “thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.” The word “Savourest” means to be moved in a ceratin direction, to have an affection for. Now Peter did not want to serve men above Jesus, to love others more than Jesus, to serve another before Jesus, Peter was given to Jesus Christ. What then was the problem? Peter had not yet turned all of self, body, soul, mind and heart completely over to Christ. Peter was born again, was following and serving Christ, but Peter still held back part of self. That is why when told of the coming sacrifice of Christ Peter said no. (Matt 16:21-22 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. 22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.) Peter wanted to be in control, Peter savored self more than Jesus at that time. What tings do you savor today? We will consider that word this week and for today ask yourself what you savor most in your life?
