Chron 21:1-4 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.
And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.
And Joab answered, The Lord make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?
Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.

All week we have been looking at David inquiring of the Lord and how that was rewarded in the life of David. Now we come to a time when David failed to inquire of the Lord. By the end of this chapter seventy thousand people have died and Jerusalem is about to be destroyed. What if David had inquired of the Lord? All that could have been avoided. What if David had inquired of the Lord the night he arose off his bed and walked upon the roof top of the palace? That great sin of David would have been avoided as well. The only time David gets himself into such trouble is when he fails to inquire of the Lord. What if we prayed, sought the Lord, inquired of the Lord as we ought? Often we are quick to act when we should be quick to pray and inquire of the Lord. As you go about your day today how many times will you stop and pray before you act? Be sure to inquire of the Lord.
