2 Sam 5:19-23 And David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
20 And David came to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there, and said, The Lord hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baal-perazim.
21 And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.
22 And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
23 And when David inquired of the Lord, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

There were also times when David inquired of the Lord and the Lord said no as we see in verse twenty three. When David heard this answer he did not go ahead and do what he wanted to do, did not question God, did not get frustrated or angry, David listened to the Lord. (2 Sam 5:25
And David did so, as the Lord had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gazer.) God would still give a victory but God wanted David to obey and do things God’s way and in God’s time. We may very well receive an answer of no to our prayers just as David did. We need to receive that answer of no in the same way David did. Many today get angry, get frustrated and even question the motives of God. Instead of doing those things we need to continue to inquire of the Lord, continue to seek God and above all obey God. We need to remember a lesson David learned. (Ps 84:11-12 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. 12 O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.)
