2 Tim 2:1-4 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
KJV
A good soldier must be willing to set the affairs of this life aside in order to serve. No soldier claims he cannot be deployed, cannot go to war because he has a wife, because he has children, because there is a family reunion, a ballgame, a hobby that he has to attend to, to give his time to. For the soldier being a soldier comes first. In our Christian walk and warfare Jesus Christ must come first. The affairs of this life are never to be put above Jesus Christ in our lives, in the life of one in the Christian army. That is strange to many professing Christians today, the idea that Jesus must come first. We have wives and children, husbands, jobs, other family, hobbies, things we like to do and there is nothing wrong with having those things. A soldier in the army can have all of those things. But our commander in chief needs to always come first, the affairs of this life must never be allowed to come between our love and service to Christ.
