2 Chron 25:1-4 Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart.
3 Now it came to pass, when the kingdom was established to him, that he slew his servants that had killed the king his father.
4 But he slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the Lord commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.
KJV
Amaziah it would seem was a part time Christian. He was one of the few good kings in Israel, or at least he was not as bad as some of the others. Notice he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord. (Verse 2) No higher compliment could be said of a king at that time. But then we find he did not do it with a perfect heart. (Verse 2) Amaziah would pick and choose that which he would obey in the Word of God and that which he would ignore, his heart was not perfect before God. Many who claim the name of Christ today, who profess to be saved do the very same thing. What they like and does not hinder what they want to do the follow, what hinders their flesh they ignore. The answer will many times come back that “God understands”. God understands that I am tired and don’t feel like going to church, God understands that all my friends go to this place, do those things and I want to fit in, God understands that I like this TV program even though they take His name in vain all the time, God understands. Does God understand? Yes, God understands that our heart is not right before Him. Amaziah according to God did not have a perfect heart, what is God writing down about your heart and mine.
