Matt 2:1-7 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

One may hear something like this at Christmas time, “Wise men still seek Him”. Have you ever wondered what made those men wise? The term used to describe these men is also used to describe a sorcerer in the book of Acts. Yet these men were not of that sort, were not demonic in that way. So what made them wise? Several things we will look at over the next few days leading up to Christmas. First, they were from the east, most likely from the lands of ancient Babylon. This means they had access, because of Jewish captivity and a man named Daniel to the Word of God. The Bible was something they read and studied and if one takes the time to read the Book of Daniel they find much of the coming Messiah. It is a wise man who will spend time in the Word of God, and believe what they read because it comes from God. We know that God preserved His Word, the Word that He gave to Daniel, for Israel. There is no reason not to believe that same Word was preserved in Babylon as well. When those men found the Word of God they were given to it, studied it, and believed what who was coming. That is the first step in becoming wise before God.
