Daily Devotions

Mark 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

What do you do when you awake in the night when it is a great while before day? What is the first thing that you reach for in those dark hours? Is it the smart phone, is it the TV remote, do you reach for the PC so you can see what is on facebook? Jesus went to the Father in prayer and while Jesus did not have the things that were just named He had more to do and more to occupy His mind and time than we will ever have. What we reach for first when we awake is revealing where our heart is, what is most important to us. Many times I find myself awake in the very early morning hours and there are many things to reach for, many things to look at, many things to occupy my mind, but there is nothing more calming, more soothing then prayer at those times, then just talking to my Lord and Savior. I need to remind myself over and over that there is one I can spend time with in those night time hours and it is always time well spent.
