1 Peter 4:14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
KJV
The last two times the word happy is found in the Bible are above and they both tell us that we can be happy when we suffer and when we are reproached? How can that be? The above is true when we suffer and are reproached for the name of Jesus. Many people are suffering today and the lost go through the natural things of this life with no idea of the love, strength and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ to lift them up and above the trial, to give them hope and victory in this world below. Many years ago the country church I pastor saw six godly and faithful women go home to be with the Lord in the span of one year, one of them was my mother. There were some serious health issues inside my home as well and then some left the church without explanation. I don’t know if the above verses apply to that time but one thing I do know is that I had never felt so close to my Lord, never felt the grace of my Lord meeting every need every hour of each day. It was a very difficult time and a very happy time all at once. I can’t imagine what it must be like going through the sufferings and trials of this life without His grace to get us through. Are you suffering today? Then turn it over to Jesus and you will find that you can be happy at the same time.
