1 Thess 5:25 Brethren, pray for us. Praying for others is our topic this week and wee find in our reading today Jesus praying for Peter.
Luke 22:31-34 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
KJV
Have you ever stopped to contemplate what may have happened to Peter had Jesus not be praying for him, had Jesus not be praying that his faith not fail? Peter was put to the test as Jesus said he would be, failed the test as Jesus told him that he would, but then Peter was restored and once again invited by Jesus to “Come and dine” commissioned by Jesus to “Feed my sheep” and given the invitation to “Follow me.” Jesus praying for Peter did not keep him from the trial, but the prayers of Jesus did keep the faith of Peter from failing. I will be praying today for many close to me to be healed even though the doctors say that is beyond them, for some undergoing surgery today, others in hospitals and some going to hospitals far away at the end of the week. The prayers of the children of God do not keep us from going through the trials and storms of life, but they do sustain our faith and keep us strong in the Lord. Who will you pray for today asking the Lord Jesus Christ to strength their faith, to allow His presence to be felt in thier lives, and for their faith to remain strong? I know some are praying those things for me and those prayers are needed. 1 Thess 5:25 Brethren, pray for us.
