Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
KJV
Almost 750 times we find the phrase “I am” in the Bible and those words are spoken by many men and women throughout the Bible. But when God uses those words in reference to Himself they take on a greater meaning and for the most part a greater comfort for the child of God. Above is the first occurrence of those words in the Bible and they certainly would have taken fear away from Abraham and would continue to do so the rest of his life as long as he believed and rehearsed them. The great I AM would protect and take care of Abraham and then give an exceeding great reward because of the faithfulness of Abraham. What of the last use of that phrase? (Rev 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.) Now we find that Jesus is our I AM and that in Him we can have all the promises first given to Abraham. Do you know Him today as your personal savior? Have you given your life to Him today? Then abide under your shield, allow Him to take care of you today. There is exceeding and great reward waiting for all who place faith and trust in our I AM. Trust Jesus today.
