Matt 26:55-56 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.
56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

Search the Scriptures and you will not be able to find a time when because of danger, because of fear, or just because He was not committed, that Jesus forsook those who had placed faith and trust in Him, that Jesus left them to deal with the trouble and trial on their own. The very same thing holds true in the lives of those who place faith and trust in Jesus today. (Heb 13:5-6 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.) The disciples were warned of this many times by Jesus Himself. (Matt 26:31-35 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. 32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. 33 Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. 34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.) All of them, not just Peter, claimed that they would die with Him before they would leave Him. But when the trouble came they soon were scattered and Jesus was left alone. How many times have we, have I, done the very same thing today? When trouble comes into our lives we are very quick to call out to the one who will never leave or forsake us, but when we are troubled because of our faith in Him we seem to follow the example of the scattered disciples. That must have broke the heart of Jesus that night and still must break the heart of Jesus today when we will not stand with Him, when we are not fully committed to Him.
