Jonah 2:9-10 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.
10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
KJV
The circumstances of Jonah’s life had changed drastically from where the prophet was in the beginning of the first chapter until the end of the second chapter in this record of his ministry. Jonah had decided he could determine who was worthy of salvation and would run from the presence of the Lord instead of taking the gospel message to the city of Nineveh. But then Jonah found himself in a violent storm, in the troubled sea, and then in the belly of the great fish. That is a drastic change. After three days Jonah comes to the conclusion that salvation is of the Lord, not only his own from the belly of the fish, but the salvation of Nineveh as well. Often today one may find him or herself making a determination of who deserves salvation and who does not. We would be wise to remember that before we were saved others may have been making that same determination about us and perhaps not in a good way. The salvation of a soul is best left in the hands of the Lord and what we need to do is take the gospel message to the lost no matter where God directs us to go or whom God directs is to talk to. Salvation is always of the Lord.
