Phil 4:11-13 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
KJV
Most of us know how to be abased and what to do when we are. (Ps 18:6 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. ; Ps 50:15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. ; Acts 12:5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.) We know who to turn to, to cry out to when we are in distress, when we are abased. But what when we abound? The Lord warned Israel about abounding, that they would forget Him when they were settled in the Promised Land, and that is what happened. It is easy to forget the help we need, the prayers we need, that we need God even more when we are abounding. What happens when you are abounding? Do you pray more, read your Bible more, spend more time with the Lord, serve more? Or do you like so many find prayer times not as fervent, not so much time in the Bible, less time with the Lord? Those things need to be greater still when we abound.
