2 The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all.

Which is most important, a good name or good riches? We are reminded in verse two that both rich and poor will meet together at the judgment seat, so which is most important to hold up before God, a good name or good riches? There is great value to be found in a good name in this world and in the world to come. What do you think of when you hear these names together, Judas and Joseph? I think of a condemned man and a just man. David and Saul? I think of two kings, one a man after the heart of God and was blessed and the other a man who turned away from God and was judged. There is great value in a good name and one should guard his or her integrity for when it is lost it is very hard to regain. Before he passed I was able to thank my father for leaving me a name I never had to be ashamed of and was never ashamed to be identified as his son. I also shared a prayer that my children and grandchildren would one day be able to say the same. Even more important is that as born again believers we have a name that never brings shame or reproach upon the name of Jesus. When people hear your name what do they think of first? What we do today will determine what value we place upon our name. Guard your heart today and guard and protect your integrity, chose a good name over silver or gold.
