2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.

It is very common for me to begin to pray as soon as I awake in the morning, to talk to my Lord at once and I believe that a good thing. (Ps 5:3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.) But I also believe there needs to be some thought given to my prayers. David asked the Lord to “Consider my meditation.” There should also be some thought given to prayer as the Bible directs us to give thought to prayer. (Eccl 5:2 Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.) Careful thought needs to be a part of our prayer life as well. The Lord should be the first one we speak to as we begin each new day, His Word the first thing we read each day, but we also need to spend some quiet time in meditation so the Holy Spirit can lead us as we pray and read.
