2 Peter 3:17-18 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
KJV
There are many this time of year who have made resolution that they do not want to grow. That is a good thing when one has started watching what they eat, moving towards a more healthy diet, and wanting to lose weight. But one should never desire to stop growing spiritually for to stop growing spiritually is to stop the blessings of God in our lives or at best hinder the blessings of God in our lives. Verse seventeen is included in our reading this morning because many are the voices that tell us one does not have to go to church, have to read their Bible, have to live a life apart from sin, have to separate from evil to please the Lord and that thinking will move one away from the Lord Jesus Christ. So the command in verse eighteen, the last words the Holy Spirit used Peter to write down, “Grow in grace. And in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” We need to keep growing in the Lord and for that to take place one needs to be in the house of God, needs to read the Word of God, needs to bow before the Lord in prayer and needs to obey. Are you resolved to grow in the Lord? Never stop growing.
