Ps 27:7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
Ps 27:13-14 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
There are times when we pray and the answer comes at once and then there are times when we must wait upon the Lord. Why must we wait? Waiting is hard for most of us and we often run out of patience but perhaps it is a good thing to wait on the Lord. God could have struck down all the men who accused Daniel before the king even as Daniel knelt and prayed but Daniel waited through a long night in prayer before God delivered him from the den of lions. God could have delivered Paul and Silas from the mob before they were ever thrown into prison but they waited in prayer and praise until God opened the prison doors and set them free. There are times when we must wait on the Lord in prayer because as we wait we become aware that the Lord is the only one who can help us, the only one who can give us strength and courage, the only one who can lift us up when a fainting spell comes upon us. But there are also others who are watching and waiting to see what happens when one prays to the true and living God. As we wait on the Lord, who heard our prayers the moment they were offered up, does answer and the world sees there is a testimony gained that moves others to the Lord as well. Read what took place after Daniel, Paul, and Silas waited on the Lord and those who watched were drawn to Christ. It is good that we at times must wait on the Lord.
