Lam 3:22-24 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
24 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
KJV
A portion is an amount and is defined as a part of a whole. Notice then what the prophet stated in verse twenty four, that the “Lord is my portion.” Not the Lord is part of what he needed, or most of what he needed, the Lord being his portion was all that Jeremiah needed. In other words Jeremiah wanted all of the Lord and wanted to give himself wholly to the Lord. The Lord would be all that Jeremiah needed everyday, all day. What portion of the Lord do you want today? Do you want the Lord to be a small part of your day, occupy a small corner of your life, be a portion of your life? Or do you want the Lord Jesus Christ to be your portion, fully, all of the time. That is what the prophet was saying and what we need to desire today, the Lord to be our portion. No one can fill your life like Jesus can, no one can do for you what Jesus can, no one can be the portion that Jesus can and desires to be in your life today. But do you want all of the Lord in your life or do you want just a portion of the Lord? Is the Lord your portion today?
