Luke 23:1-8 And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate. 2?And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King. 3?And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it. 4?Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man. 5?And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place. 6?When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean. 7?And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time. 8?And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.

Notice these two people linked with Jesus and the cross, Pilate and herd. Both had the Son of God before them but both missed what Jesus came to provide, salvation from sin and hell. Yet both of them are a type of people who are lost today and their attitude about Jesus. Some are like Pilate in that they want nothing to do with Jesus. Pilate sought only to get rid of Jesus. Send Him to Herod, give Him back to the people, but don’t deal with who Jesus Christ is. Pilate knew the claims of Jesus Christ, the inscription on the Cross shows that to be true, yet wanted nothing to do with Jesus. Just like so many today when confronted with sin and salvation in Christ want nothing to do with Him. Herod on the other hand wanted to see Jesus, for a “Long season” the Bible tells us. Yet Herod only wanted to see something done right away to please himself. Like so many others today who go to church in the hope that something good will happen to them. Not salvation, but help in troubled times, get help from a God they have no interest in knowing or following, just get some help for the moment. Something good will happen if we just go to church. Neither of these men found Christ. Do you ever wonder what people are looking for today?
