John 21:5-6 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
KJV
It is always the right thing to do when we do what Jesus commands. This is the second time they found their boats and nets empty after a long night of fishing and Jesus telling them to try again only this time at His direction. (Luke 5:1-9) It is a hard lesson to lean at times, that we need to obey Jesus all of the time. Note the phrase “Ye shall find” in verse six above. When we obey the Lord we will find a better life, a joyful life, a successful life, and yes live the happy Christian life. Those men could have reasoned that their nets and been over and over that portion of water many times during the night. They were certainly tired and needed sleep. They had work to do when they brought the boat to shore. Many excuses could have been given not to cast that net and they would have missed out on a life changing blessing. What are we missing when we refuse to obey our Lord? We may never know but what we do know is that there is a blessing waiting when we obey because when we obey “Ye shall find.”
