Luke 5:1-5 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

How many things do we do today with a “Nevertheless” attitude? That is what Peter did in our reading this morning. After a long night of fishing and taking nothing Jesus commands Peter to take the boat back to where it was and let down the nets and take in a great catch. The boat and been docked, the nets cleaned, and it was time for rest. Add to that Jesus had just used Peter’s boat for a time of preaching that most likely went on for hours as the multitude was before Jesus. Now go out again when you need rest, go out again at a time when success was not likely to be found, go out again where you had just failed to catch anything, go out again. Peter obeyed in a nevertheless way knowing that he would fail. But Peter did not fail. (Luke 5:6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.) Very often today we may obey God’s Word in a nevertheless way. Yet that should never be true of us as born again believers because God always honors His Word. Commanded to “Pray without ceasing” we need to pray knowing that God will answer those prayers. Commanded to “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” we should know there will be rest found when we give our burdens to Him. Don’t be that nevertheless Christian, be that one that knows God will always honor His Word and will always bless obedience to His Word.
