James 4:13-17 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14?Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. 15?For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. 16?But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. 17?Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
Who makes your plans? We are often thinking about our future, what lies ahead and so on. We make plans for the future, for tomorrow, next month, next year and so on. Let me ask you this morning; who makes your plans? It is not wrong to plan for the future, to be prepared. But did you know it is sin to leave God out of those plans? (James 4:17) We apply this verse to all areas of the Bible and all areas of life and it is not wrong to do that. But in context this passage is speaking about making plans for the future and leaving God out of those plans. God wants to plan your future for you, your tomorrow, your next month, your next year and let me say God will do a better job of that than you will. It is true of we turn things over to the Lord our plans may change. Paul would be a great Pharisee and not the apostle to the Gentiles. Peter would be a fisherman and not the one who opened the door to gospel preaching. Matthew would be a tax collector and not an apostle. When you turn things over to the Lord your plans may very well change. But God’s plans, God’s way are always higher, always better than our ways. Life may not get easier when we choose to follow the Lord but it will get sweeter. Who is making your plans?
