Ps 55:1-6 Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication.
2 Attend unto me, and hear me: I mourn in my complaint, and make a noise;
3 Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.
4 My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.
5 Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me.
6 And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest.
KJV
How often do we as Christians feel like David did and long for wings to fly away from this evil world, the troubles of this world, the trials of this world and be at rest? As Christians we do look for and long for heaven, long for the time we will meet Jesus in the air at the rapture or be escorted into His presence at the appointed time of our death and there is nothing wrong with that as we are to watch and wait for the appearing of our Savior. Yet we are here at this time for a reason and we are to be that light that points to Jesus, that salt that makes a difference in this world for Jesus Christ. I myself would take those wings today but there are other things God would have me take up. Take the gospel to the those lost in sin, that I can take up. Take up the mantle of service for my Savior, that I can take up. Take up the duty of prayer, that I can take up. I may not take up the wings of a dove today but there are other things I can take up.
