Rev 1:9-11 I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. 10?I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, 11?Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
The first Christian to go through this life without trials and tribulations will be the first one ever. Only those who would get saved on their death bed are kept from many trials and even they face the trial of death. But stop and meditate upon verse 9 of our text today. The beloved John, the disciple that Jesus loved, the one who leaned his head upon Jesus, the one who heard the very heartbeat of God, that John, is our companion in tribulation. This brings me much comfort and encouragement not because John suffered trials, but because that one so loved by Jesus was not spared them and if he was not what would make me think I should be? We often ask; “Why me?” Well, why not us? If John went through the trials of life why not us? And what John endured and the way he endured should be an encouragement for us to keep going for the Lord today. Could it be that if we remain faithful to Christ, if we continue to serve Christ in trials, that we might be a help to someone else? May we be to others their companion in tribulation.
