Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
KJV
Not one of the more well known parables of Jesus but perhaps one of the most needed. There are many things that bring an individual to the point of fainting. The word faint used here means to become discouraged, to be in despair, to become weary and those are common feelings today. What is the remedy? More doctors, more medication, more pain killers, more of anything that man seems to have to answer the problem? Why not pray first and always? All of the things man offers will not lift one out of discouragement and despair, but Jesus can. The phrase “To this end” above tells me that prayer can carry me beyond the problems of this life, that prayer can lift me above fainting fits, that prayer is the medicine that I need the most. This is not against doctors or medication but it is for prayer. Men ought always to pray.
