Genesis 28:16-17 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not. 17?And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
After waking from his dream and vision of the ladder going to heaven, after having the covenant God made with Abraham passed on to him, Jacob was afraid, Jacob counted it a dreadful place. How could that be? When would the house of God, the gate of heaven be considered a dreadful place? Consider this for a moment. People who have no time for the Lord and the things of the Lord, people who have never given thought to Jesus will consider the gate of heaven a dreadful place. Sinners who mock the gospel and the Bible will consider the gate of heaven a dreadful place. Even Christian who never serve the Lord will consider the gate of heaven a dreadful place. That one who walks in disobedience to the commands of Jesus Christ will consider the gate of heaven a dreadful place. Many will consider it a dreadful place. What about you this morning? If Jesus Christ would return this very day would you be filled with confidence a joy? Or would you think the gate of heaven a dreadful place?
