Continuing to give honor to those who have served in God’s army and are now with the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven I think of Pastor Albert Cooper. Pastor Cooper was a man with a very colored past. He was a successful business man, he was for a time a professional wrestler, he boxed, he did many different things and was good at all of them. Then he was born again and gave up all to follow and serve Jesus Christ. There was not a time I did not know Pastor Cooper as he was a friend of the family. He served as pastor in the same church I now pastor. When I was seeking the will of God for my life, seeking God’s will for the ministry Pastor Cooped called and asked of I could fill in for him one Sunday. This I had never done and just a few weeks before asked God to give me a clear sign that He was calling me to preach. God used Pastor Cooper to give me that sign and then to help and guide me over the years. I learned from Pastor Cooper how to work hard in the ministry, how to love people and serve people, how to keep going for the Lord after some of those same people turn on a pastor. I learned from Pastor Cooper how to fight battles that need to be fought and to let some things go and forgive. No man outside my father and grandfather had a greater influence on me than Pastor Cooper and I thank Jesus for making him such a large part of my life. I only hope and pray that I may be to another what Pastor Albert Cooper was for me. Pastor Cooper was one of many spiritual heros that God has placed in my life and is due honor from me.
