Phil 3:13-14 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

The apostle Paul had a goal and he expressed it in this epistle. “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Now he is nearing the end of his life and by all accounts a successful life spent serving the Lord Jesus Christ from the moment he was saved. Missionary, evangelist, church planter, Paul devoted his life to his savior. What was left to do, what more could be accomplished? Yet we find Paul continuing to press on, to press for the mark set before him. Paul stated this from prison awaiting his execution. Why not just wait for the end, surely he had done his part, surly a “Well done” was awaiting him in heaven. As long as the apostle could draw breath in his lungs he wanted to do something for Jesus. What a lesson for us in our day when evil seems to have overtaken good to the extent that there is little hope. When troubles mount up and there seems to be no relief. When health problems and age may slow us down. What to do? Press on dear Christian press on, press for the mark.
