Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you. 34?A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35?By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. 36?Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards. 37?Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake. 38?Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
Jesus told the disciples that where He was going they could not come. (V34) Peter had a simple question; why? (V37) Peter wanted to be with Jesus so why not follow now? Christian there are times when God wants us to stand still and wait on Him. In our have it right now, no waiting society this is often hard. Hard to pray and then wait, hard to seek guidance and then wait, hard to look ahead and then wait. It is often hard to wait on the Lord. But there are times when God wants us to stand still and wait on Him. In this new Year we need to be active for the Lord, we need to move forward for the Lord. But there will also be times when we are to wait on Him. To move without Him will result in failure on down the line or at once. To move without Him will ruin lives, cause discouragement, and even turn others away from Him. Yes we need to be active for the Lord. But there will be times when we simply must wait. Peter was going to be permitted to follow Jesus, just not at that time.
