Neh 4:1-2 But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
2 And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned?
Neh 4:10 10 And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.
KJV
Above are the only two places the word rubbish is found in the Bible. Nehemiah was faced with an impossible task in rebuilding the walls, the gates, and the temple in Jerusalem. Many others had tried and failed and the city was is a great state of decay. God gave Nehemiah a great burden, opened the doors for him to return to Jerusalem, and now the ruin of the city was before him. Could Nehemiah revive Jerusalem, could Nehemiah revive the stones out of heaps of rubbish? The answer was and remains to this day NO. But the wall was rebuilt in just fifty two days, the gates were repaired and the temple restored. How? God did the work using that man of faith and obedience. But what God directed Nehemiah to do first was to get rid of the rubbish. Many wonder if there can be revival today and in the book of Nehemiah we see what needs to take place to bring about revival. First there must be a removal of the rubbish in our lives, the clutter that keeps us from walking close to our Lord and Savior. That rubbish can take on many different forms in our lives and some of them may seem quite harmless. The PC I am sitting in front of is a very good and helpful tool. It can also lead to a tremendous wasting of time if it is not used properly. The smart phone is something everyone has to have today and I have one as well and it is a useful tool. It can also lead one into things they should never be looking at and it seems to hypnotize many as they are content to look at that little screen all day. Many other forms of rubbish exist in the lives of God’s children today and until they are identified and removed we will not have real revival. What makes up the rubbish in your life today?
