December 31st, 2010 by Pastor SolleyJames 4:13-17 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14?Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. 15?For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. 16?But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. 17?Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
This is of course the last day of 2011. Most on this day tend to take a look back at what transpired during the past year and ahead to make plans for the New Year. Looking back is wise so we learn from mistakes and so not repeat them, so we can take time to thank the Lord for His blessing and provision, His protection and direction in 2010. But who can look ahead with any certainty? We need to remember that none of us knows what tomorrow may hold. Life can change in an instant. People say “happy New Year” and never really think about what they are saying. Only God knows what is coming for any of us in 2011. The New Year may be a happy one filled with joy or it may be a trying one filled with trials, none of us knows for sure. One thing we do know is that God is in control of everything. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever and He is in control of the year to come. That being true wouldn’t it be better then to turn your life completely over to Him in every way? He will see you through the trials of 2011, give you direction as you face difficult decisions, and comfort you in days of darkness. He will also give you light and joy as you follow and serve Him. Not everything in 2011 will be happy but all will be well if you spend the New Year walking with Jesus.
