I hear many times today when people are suffering affliction be it physical, spiritual or mental that they do not deserve to suffer as they are. So I looked for the word deserve in the Bible and it is not there. Then I found the word deserveth and above is the only time in the Bible that word is found. Job found no comfort in the words of his friends but there is some truth found in them as well. This man claimed Job was being punished because of sin and that was not true but when we look at his words recorded in verse six we do find some truth. God has not given any of us what we really deserve. Born in sin, separated from God by our sin nature, our actions of sin deserving immediate judgment from God, God did not give us what we deserve. Instead God gave His Son and Jesus paid the price for our sin with His own shed blood on the cross. Jesus became sin for us and bore in His body the punishment for our sin. Jesus did not deserve what He went through for us and He did it so that we would not get what we really deserve from a holy and righteous God because of our sin. When we think we are going through something we do not deserve it would be good to think of Jesus and what he went through that He did not deserve.
