Col 3:15-16 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
KJV
The truth that is presented in verse fifteen, that born again believers have the peace of God in their hearts, is one that seems to be lacking many times in the lives of God’s children today. Overcome by trials of many types we often seem to lack the peace that is promised to us. Why? Yesterday we noted that a lack of thankfulness on our part can lead to a lack of peace in our hearts, we need to be thankful. Today we find that it is the Word of God dwelling in us richly that will bring about this peace. (Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.) But what does that mean exactly? That word dwell means to inhabit, to take up residence within. For peace of God we need the Word of God. We need to read, meditate, and memorize the Word of God, to hide it deep within our hearts and then claim the promises of God’s Word. He is able to succor and help us, it is promised. (Heb 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.) We can come to our God for the help we need and the peace we seem to lack. (Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.) We can ask for the peace we are promised. (John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.) When questions arise, when floods of troubles seem to overwhelm us, don’t look for answers from the world, seek the peace of God and take refuge in His Word. This preacher will often find peace when he simply holds His Word in my hands as I pray and seek His presence.
