Ps 91:1-3 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
KJV
This Psalm is a favorite of many because of the precious promised of God found throughout especially the promise of answered prayer near the end of this Psalm. So great is our God that He can deliver us from the noisome pestilence. (Verse 3) What is a noisome pestilence? It is something that has touched us in such a way it can destroy us. Job used this same Hebrew word when he spoke of his calamity. (Job 6:2-3 Oh that my grief were throughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together! 3 For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up.) It is something that threatens to drown us. How many times do we feel the same as the psalmist in Psalm 91 or like Job in his great distress? What to do? Cling once again to the sure promises of God, claim again the precious promises of God. What has God promised when the noisome pestilence comes? Deliverance for all who make Him their dwelling place, their refuge, their fortress.
