Col 4:2-3 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
KJV
The word continue in verse two above means to be constantly and diligently devoted to prayer. Paul is asking that of those believers because he was constantly in prayer for them. (Col 1:3
We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,) What of your prayer life and mine today, do we continue in prayer? What will any of us do today that is more important than prayer, has more power than prayer, brings more assurance than prayer, moves the hand of God like prayer does? Yet prayer seems to be an area of the Christian life than has fallen down the ladder of importance. The Greek word translated continue above is used four other times in reference to prayer. (1) Acts 1:14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. (2) Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. (3) Acts 6:4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. (4) Rom 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; That makes five times and when God tells us anything five times it should alert us to its importance. Prayer is more than important in the life of the believer in Christ, it is vital. But can we say that we continue in prayer? If we can’t say that may we ask for God’s help as we begin today to continue in prayer.
