That the word Abba points to a deep, personal relationship with God the Father is clear when you look at the only individual in the Bible to use that word when speaking to the Father. (Mark 14:34-36 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch. 35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.) Jesus in the Garden is the only individual recorded in the Bible using the word Abba. Jesus and the Father are one. Jesus announced that He is “I AM”. Jesus and the Father are one. (John 1:1-2 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. ; John 10:30 I and my Father are one.) One cannot get any closer. Then consider the other two place the Abba is found in the Bible and we see that God the Father through God the Son wants that close relationship with all who come to salvation in Christ.
(Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. ; Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.) God wants that close relationship, as close as Jesus to the Father, with you if you are born again. Are you that close to God today? God wants that closeness with you, with me and that is an awesome thought. Not only does God want it God does all to provide it except one thing. God sent His Son to die, the Son of God came willingly and gave His life a sacrifice on the cross. God sent the Holy Spirit to dwell within the redeemed in Christ. God opens the avenue of prayer to all who know Jesus. God has done it all except for one thing, God will not force this closeness upon us, we need to want it as well. Do you want that closeness with God the Father today? If not, why not? Think on that today and tomorrow we will look at how to enter into that closeness with God the Father.
