Ruth 1:14-18 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her. 15?And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law. 16?And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: 17?Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. 18?When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her. Both of these young women, Orpah and Ruth, claimed to love their mother in law, both claimed to love the God of the Hebrews, Jehovah, and most likely both did. But when it came time to decide if they would give all to God or return to what they had known before only one of them, only Ruth continued on with the Lord. What a clear picture of Christianity today. It seems that no matter who you talk with today everyone is a Christian, everyone loves God. But when you begin to get specific with people, when you try and get beyond their words to their actions you find something much different. You find people who know the words of Christianity but not the walk of Christianity. You find a head knowledge of God and His love, but not a heart knowledge of Christ. You find a very shallow Christianity which in most cases is no Christianity at all. What about you today? Do you love the Lord? Do you love Jesus? Are those just words you say or do you like Ruth cleave to the Lord? What type Christianity do you have?
