Hosea 6:1-4 Come, and let us return unto the Lord: For he hath torn, and he will heal us; He hath smitten, and he will bind us up. 2? After two days will he revive us: In the third day he will raise us up, And we shall live in his sight. 3? Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: His going forth is prepared as the morning; And he shall come unto us as the rain, As the latter and former rain unto the earth. 4? O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? For your goodness is as a morning cloud, And as the early dew it goeth away.

Israel spent 400 years in Egypt and we find in Hosea 6 something they learned there. Here we have the cry of Israel unto the Lord. “Come and let us return unto the Lord”. God had chastened them and now they want to return to Him spiritually. How that must have pleased the Lord. But notice the response of the Lord in verse 4. Israel did learn something in Egypt, they learned to cry out to God when in trouble and then to ignore Him after the trouble passes. Just like the morning dew they fade away from the Lord after the trouble passes. They did learn this from Pharaoh in Egypt. How many times did Pharaoh say he would let the people go only to change his mind after the trouble passes?
Sounds like many professing Christians today doesn’t it? How many need the Lord, want prayers, call out to Him in trouble, but when the trouble passes they go back to life in this world as normal, doing what they want, living with no thought as to the Lord at all. How this must break the heart of God. Lord help us, help me, not learn anything from Egypt.
