2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

So many things in this shepherd chapter of the New Testament. I am sure that the Old Testament believers took great comfort in Psalm 23 and we as New Testament believers can take great comfort in John 10. One of the truths of this chapter that move me the most is that Jesus knows my name. (Verse three.) How many people our Lord has to keep track of day by day, moment by moment, and He does know each one by name. I can still hear the voice of my earthly father calling out my name and he has been gone for a number of years now. I recall the feeling that I had when I heard him calling out my name and it is still something I miss. But I have an even warmer feeling, a much greater sense of comfort when I stop and meditate upon the above verses. My Savior, my Lord, My God, the one who created all things, the one who holds all things together, He knows my name. When I bow in prayer, when I read His word, it is as if He is now calling my name and I marvel at that. One day I will hear His voice calling out in a very clear and audible way and I do long for that day. For now I am blessed in knowing He knows my name.
