December 8th, 2010 by Pastor SolleyRevelation 3:1-6 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. 2?Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. 3?Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. 4?Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. 5?He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. 6?He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
There were a few names in Sardis who had not defiled their garments. (Verse 4) Why just a few? Could it be because so few were watchful? (Verse 2) There are so many things that Satan sets before the Christian today, so many things that seem harmless, but so many things that slowly and step by step take us away from the Lord. Add up enough of these harmless things and we will have a spiritual life that is ready to die, just like the church at Sardis. Do you know that you can take a little bit of poison at a time and not be harmed, at least seem not to be harmed. But if you continue to take that little bit day after day soon it will catch up with your body. Spiritually we need to be watchful. Look at for the little things that seem harmless but are taking you away from the Lord. They will add up until your spiritual life is as good as dead. There were a few names in Sardis. I fear there are even fewer names today.
