August 16th, 2023 by Pastor Solley1 Kings 19:1-4 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

Here we find one of God’s great servants in great need. Elijah had done many great things for the Lord and the battle with the false gods of the idol Baal is one of the greatest victories recorded in the Bible. (1 Kings 18) Now the man of God finds himself worn down and worn out. This many would call burn out. Now what happens, what will God do for Elijah and what will God do for any of us when we feel worn down and worn out? Some things to note here over the next few days. First, God sends one to help. (1 Kings 19:5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.) God sent an angel to help. Will God send one to help us in our time of need? That answer is yes and I do believe in angels as ministering spirits today. (Heb 13:2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.) However we also have one always with us to help in our hour of need. (John 14:16-18 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.) We have the Holy Spirit of God indwelling us and He is our help in time of need. Notice God will not leave us comfortless. That word does NOT mean to be comforted with words or thoughts alone. That one is there to help and provide for us, to lead and protect us. God did not leave Elijah on his own and none of His children today will be left alone. God has given one to help us in our times of need, when we are worn down and worn out.
