July 13th, 2023 by Pastor Solley1 Sam 30:1-6 And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
2 And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.
3 So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captives.
4 Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
5 And David’s two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

Here we find a great man of God, a man after the very heart of God, a great man of prayer, greatly distressed. (Verse 6) In fact David had shed so many tears in prayer there were none left. (Verse 4) What was the cause of this great distress in the life of David? The immediate cause is named in verses one through five above and it was a great heartache and trial that David was facing. But the overall cause was constant Satanic attacks on the man of God. From the time of his great victory over Goliath David had come under attack from that roaming and roaring lion we all face. A study of the life of David from that time to the account we read this morning more than confirms that. David had become worn down and worn out and was now greatly distressed. Is that what you are facing today as so many of God’s people seem to be? A time when you are worn down and worn out. The Bible commands us to “Be not weary in well doing” two times in the New Testament. Do you become, have you become weary? What is the answer for that weariness, what would be the answer for David’s distress? We are told the answer in verse six and we will look at that tomorrow but for today don’t think it a strange thing if from time to time you become weary in this world. But we do not have to stay in a distressed state for God has the answer and it is available for all who know Jesus Christ.
