June 30th, 2023 by Pastor SolleyJer 33:1-3 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
2 Thus saith the Lord the maker thereof, the Lord that formed it, to establish it; the Lord is his name;
3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
KJV
The promise made in verse thirty three is one of the greatest in the Word of God. The God of heaven wants His children, commands His children to call out to Him and then promises to show them great and mighty things. Within the walls of the prison Jeremiah was shut up in there would be many calling out for mercy and help. But the king who placed them there would ignore those pleas, the guards who watched over them would ignore those please, other prisoners would as well. No matter how loud or long those prisoners called out those cries would be ignored. But not by God, not by the God Jeremiah knew and served. The invitation is given “Call unto me”. All Jeremiah had to do was cry out to God and that prayer would be heard “ I will answer thee”. Not only would God answer, God would do above and beyond what Jeremiah thought God could do. “ I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” That promise is not for Jeremiah alone but for every blood bought child of God today. (1 John 5:14-15
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.) I have been made a promise today that when I call out to God He will hear and answer my prayers. Other than the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ what could go beyond the promise of God hearing when I call out to Him? Years have started to take away my hearing and I often do not hear when someone says something to me. Praise God that is not the case when we pray. My God hears, my God cares, and my God will even go beyond what I ask of Him. Why wouldn’t I then be found often in prayer?
