Judg 6:36-40 And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,
37 Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.
38 And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.
39 And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.
40 And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.

Gideon was a very unlikely warrior, but one chosen by God and for good reason. We noted yesterday that Gideon was active just as we need to be active for the Lord day by Day. Gideon was also one seeking the will of God for his life. One thing we remember most about Gideon is his putting a fleece before the Lord and God giving Gideon specific direction. There have been times I have as well placed a fleece before the Lord and God gave through circumstances specific answer. A few things to note however when we consider putting a fleece before the Lord. Be sure we are willing to follow God’s direction in answer to our prayers. Gideon was willing to do what God directed him to do. There are also many things we do not need a fleece to follow. What God clearly says in His Word we are to do. We don’t need a fleece to show we are to be in the house of God. (Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.) We don’t need a fleece to show we are to separate from sin. (1 Thess 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.) But when seeking something specific we may need to ask God to show us. Years ago when seeking the will of God concerning a building project at our church God gave specific answers. A large piece of land was first donated so we could begin our church camp. Then a large piece of money donated for the camp project by one who did not attend our church. It was a specific answer to a fleece being placed before the Lord. (Lord, if you want us to go forward please show us in a way that I may know clearly.) Not long after that prayer the donations came. It was then up to us to follow God’s direction. This year it looks as if our camp will be completed. Now this project has been ongoing for fifteen years and many long hours of hard work have been put into it. Following God’s direction may not be easy, but it is always right.
