Luke 5:1-6 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

What makes an individual useful to our Lord? For the most part it is simply being obedient in simple things. At this point in his life Peter was a believer but had not yet been called, or obeyed the call, to forsake all and follow Jesus. But there are several things in this account that took Peter to that point and they all center around simple obedience to Jesus. Jesus was preaching and teaching and there was a multitude of people pressing upon him. (Verse one) The people were crowding around Jesus, pushing Him along, pressing upon Him and Jesus needed a place to stop and stand, a platform from which to speak. “Peter, can I use your ship?” That answer was yes and it gave Peter the opportunity to be useful to Jesus. Because Peter obeyed in this simple request it gave others to opportunity to hear the gospel from Jesus. We don’t know how many believed that day but the Bible tells us His Word never returns void. Peter was useful because he obeyed and allowed Jesus to step into that ship and preach. A very simple thing. Do you want to be useful for your Savior today? Begin to obey in the simple things. More tomorrow.
