KJV
Paul considered himself bound to Jesus Christ. The word for servant in this verse is the word bondman, one bound to another. At that time it was a word understood as many were sold into slavery, born into slavery, or captured as slaves, they became bound to others for life. Paul considered himself bound to Jesus Christ. Why? Because of the price paid for him by Jesus on that cross. (1 Cor 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. ; 1 Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;) Jesus Christ paid a price for Paul and when Paul was born again he became that purchased possession of Jesus Christ, Paul was bound to Christ as a slave was bound to his or her master. But those cords that bound Paul to Christ were cords of love. Paul understood just how much Jesus loved him and that love was then returned. (Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.) What else could Paul do other than to serve Jesus Christ? Do you consider yourself bound to Jesus today? Sadly many who claim to know Him show very little love for Him. They have the words but lack the action that proves those words to be true. What would it demonstrate if I claimed to love my wife but did nothing for her, paid little attention to her, and called on her only when I demanded her do something for me? That love is no love at all and that is NOT the love the believer is to demonstrate for Jesus who loves us so much. Do you consider yourself to be bound to Jesus today?
