Heb 5:11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.
KJV
What a terrible accusation, that one is dull of hearing. Those believers were dull of hearing from the apostle. Things he had said before, things they needed to hear again, they were dull of hearing. The word means sluggish in that they were anything but swift to hear as the Bible commands. That Greek word is used only one other place in the New Testament. (Heb 6:12
That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.) A sloth is perhaps the slowest moving animal in the world. I wonder how many times that accusation has been made of me in heaven, that I was dull of hearing? Could it be said this morning as I read my Bible? Could it have been said the last service I was able to sit and listen to preaching? Will it be said the next time I am able to listen to preaching? How many times has it been true of you, that you were dull of hearing? It is one thing for a man to think this about us, to accuse us of being dull of hearing, but when God does it that should wake us up. It was God that accused those ones in Hebrews chapter five and not a man and I wonder if that woke them up? When you take up your Bible this morning be swift and eager to hear from God. When you sit in the church service be swift and eager to hear from God. It is amazing how much more we get from God when we are not dull of hearing.
