Kings 13:15-21 And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.
And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands.
And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.
And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.
And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.

Another lesson from Elisha this morning. How great a victory over our enemies do we really desire? Speaking now of sin, Satan, and our flesh, how great a victory over the things that harm us spiritually do we really desire? Elisha was angry with the king because he stopped short of a complete victory. How many times do we pray and ask the Lord to give us victory over one or more areas of our lives and still hold onto something we know we need to let go of? Many times over the years I have knelt at an altar and asked for victory over one thing or another and at the same time held onto something else that I knew needed to be put out of my life. That is an uncomplete victory and the things that I have held onto cause greater harm down the road than that which I gave up. How great a victory do we really want in our lives? That question is answered by the things we choose to hang onto.
